Debate Programs
Point Avenue Thailand’s debate programs are designed around reinforcing critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and creativity. These skills are vital for success as a leader in the modern world, and we believe in creating every opportunity for our future leaders to develop them. Debate is rich with these opportunities, as it encourages students to challenge the norm and speak up for their beliefs.
Students will be introduced to the foundations of debate in the Beginner-level course. For Elementary school-aged students, we focus on public speaking, whereas the Middle and High School-aged students will be taught the details of 3:3 parliamentary debate format. In the Intermediate course students will practice and enhance their debating skills through topic exploration, speech drills, and debate practices in a competitive environment. Finally, the All-Stars course focuses solely on preparing for debate tournaments through motion analysis, personalized speech and debate drills, and tournament debriefs.
For those students who are interested in current affairs discussion, but not in competitive debate, Point Avenue Thailand Debate department also offers Current Affairs Discussion and Analysis (CADA) courses. These have the same aims of developing critical thinking, communication, creativity and communication, but without the focus on developing 3:3 parliamentary debating skills. Instead, students are invited to analyze and challenge events from current affairs, form their own opinions, and learn from the opinions of their peers.
